Many of our B&B guests are curious about the journey of our home—how it came to rest among the trees on Mayne Island.
Some of you have followed our blog from the very beginning, while others are just discovering the incredible process of how we purchased a home from Nickel Brothers, had it transported from South Surrey, and carefully placed it onto a new foundation in June 2023.
Below, we’ve chronicled the key milestones of this journey, from the initial decision to buy a used home, to clearing the lot, excavating, the house arriving by barge, being positioned precisely on the markers set by the land surveyors, and finally, updating the home with new siding and a metal roof.
Decision to purchase a used home from Nickel Brothers: the why and how of choosing a relocated home.
Moving the existing bunkies and old trailer: making space for the new house.
Felling trees to make room for the new house: felling trees and preparing the site.
House arrives by barge and driven to our lot: a dramatic moment as it lands on Mayne Island.
Drafting plans, rainwater catchment design: sustainability and smart design choices.
Construction starts: laying the groundwork.
Cement footings, ready for ICF foundation blocks: the start of a strong foundation.
House is lowered on the new foundation: precision in action.
Framing, drains, floors and concrete slab: bringing structure to life.
Doors, Windows & More Framing: progress takes shape.
New roof, electrical, plumbing, drywall, deck construction: the finishing touches begin.
Siding, rainwater catchment, septic system, flooring, hot tub: almost there!
Soft-launch with first guests: the Grove B&B comes to life.
And to truly appreciate the transformation, we’ve compiled videos of key moments in the construction process. Take a look and experience the journey with us, starting with a video of what the property was like before the arrival of the new house. Maybe get yourself some popcorn, because there is over 43 minutes of video!
